Rockies slugger completes cycle in fine style
(08-01 14:06)
Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez drove the first pitch of the ninth inning into the upper deck in right field to complete the cycle and lead Colorado to a 6-5 win over the Chicago Cubs.
He is the sixth Colorado player to hit for the cycle of a single, double, triple and home run, and the first since Troy Tulowitzki did it last year, also against the Cubs.
Gonzalez, pictured, was four-for-four with two RBI's and a sacrifice fly.
He singled in the first inning, his triple that bounced off the top of the wall in the third put the Rockies ahead 4-0, and in the fifth he doubled off Cubs starter Tom Gorzelanny.
He then hit the home run off Sean Marshall.
Rockies starter Jason Hammel left in the eighth inning with a 5-2 lead and with two runners on and one out. Reliever Rafael Betancourt, however, then blew the save when he gave up a game-tying three run home run to Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee.
Huston Street, however, pitched a scoreless ninth for the Rockies, before Gonzalez's blast won the game shortly afterwards. Street (2-2) was credited with the win.
